Runway to Reality: Neon & Neutral

Neon & Neutral has been hot on the runway this season as seen in Christian Siriano’s 2012 ready-to-wear collection below.

Now what does that mean for us non-supermodel normal people? Well first lets look at some rules for neon & neutral.

- Pair bright neons with creamy light neutrals. My favorite neons are yellow, hot pink and bright orange.

- Use neon to flaunt your best asset (if you know what I mean). If you have a tiny waist opt for a neon belt. If you have killer legs go for the neon skinnies. If you love your shoulders rock a neon blazer.

- Keep your skin tone & makeup in mind when picking out which neon color you want. I.e. make sure it flatters your tone and doesn’t clash with your makeup. If you look like a clown that’s probably a “don’t”.

Now here is how to incorporate this style into your everyday fashion choices:

If you want to start small go for bright accessories with a nice cream colored top & white or traditional denim. Try these pieces on for size:

Yellow Ballet Flats

La Mer Neon Wrap Watch

Deena & Ozzy Neon Belt

Gap Wide Strap Flip Flop

Topshop Neon Chain

Now if you are feeling a little more brave go for one bright piece incorporated into your outfit.

Gap Three Stripe Sweater

Splendid Top

Gap Striped Woven T

Elizabeth & James T

Forever21 Blazer

H&M Yellow Blazer

H&M Pink Blazer

And now for the brave fashionistas out there. Try these great finds!

H&M Blouse

JCrew Toothpick Jean

H&M Dress

Daily Style Envy

Cloe Grace Moretz in Burberry Brit jacket and Stella McCartney pants. With this kind of style it’s hard to believe she is only 14.

I’m dying to recreate this edgy look with lace trousers and I think I’ve found some:

Newest Tumblr Follow: Capitol Couture

If you haven’t read The Hunger Games trilogy yet then you are about 12 years behind and need to take off tomorrow and remedy it. Seriously. Stop reading this blog, purchase the books and start reading.

Once you are complete with the trilogy you will be like every other reader out there dying to see what Hollywood comes up with in the motion picture (to be released March 23rd).

Well now we can have an insight with the newly released Capitol Couture fashion blog.

And here I was thinking I was just going to die having to wait until March 23rd to see all the outrageous fashion, makeup and hairstyles from Katniss and the citizens of the capitol.

Chambray: The new button up.

Chambray: a lightweight clothing fabric with colored warp and white filling yarns. Origin: Cambrai, France 1814

{My definition} The replacement for the white button up. It goes with everything, under everything and over everything. The perfect layering essential.

My two favorite Chambray shirts out there right now are from Free People & Jcrew. Free People - Road Trip Button Up - $118 @ Bloomingdales.com. Jcrew - I heart Chambray Shirt - $69.99 @ jcrew.com

My favorite ways to style it are under a bright colored cardigan, over a textured blouse or under a structured blazer. As far as color combinations go…. the sky is the limit! I’m loving the softness and casualness of chambray paired with strong compliments like color and sparkle!

Wear it with bold colors.

Chanel Inspired Pump

I found these Franco Sarto shoes recently at TJ Maxx for $39.99 and they are completely irresistible! I love a super high, powerful break-your-ankle heel but these are a lower pump with a chic round patent toe and extremely soft leather that makes for an incredibly comfortable shoe. If you are looking for a classy, understated look, these shoes really make a statement.

“Chanel is composed of only a few elements, white camellias, quilted bags and Austrian doorman’s jackets, pearls, chains, shoes with black toes. I use these elements like notes to play with.”

-Karl Lagerfeld

My Franco Sarto’s are most certainly inspired by the black toe, typical look of Chanel like Mr. Lagerfeld noted above and like those pictured below. I haven’t researched but am willing to bet the farm on the fact that they will run you a bit over $39.99.

Sh*t Fashion Girls Say

This has had me laughing all morning. What makes all of these parody videos so relatable is because at one time or another, some of the phrases have left your pretty little mouth. Enjoy!

Get The Look : Color Blocking

My current obsession is color blocking.

Color blocking is an amazing way to take plain, single-hued pieces you already have in your closet and give them a trendy update by creating a whole new look.

Pink on red or different shades of pink on pink is the hottest thing I’ve seen done with this trend. I’m not a pink-lover to begin with but this makes wearing the color look so much more fun!

{popsugar.com}

Aside from pink on red, try the brown on black color block. This can be done easily by pairing an all-black wardrobe with brown belt, shoes, or bag. It’s so chic.

{lavieboston.com}

If you are a bit more daring, try color blocking with popular vibrant colors like blue, green, orange, yellow and purple.

I’ve yet to pull together a color block look I love but I'm working on it.
